Nea Moni is an 11th-century monastery on the island of Chios that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located on the Provateio Oros Mt. in the island's interior, about 15 km from Chios town. Nea Moni of Chios is situated 2½ km northeast of Álona.

Anavatos is a medieval, now abandoned, village on the Greek island of Chios, 16 km from Chios. Created in the Byzantine era, probably by workers of the Nea Moni of Chios, the village was abandoned after the Massacre of Chios in 1822 and the earthquake of 1881. Anavatos is situated 5 km north of Álona.
