Vasilievsky Island is an island in Saint Petersburg situated between the Bolshaya Neva and the Malaya Neva, two main distributaries of the river. The population of the district, including the adjacent to Dekabristov Island, separated by the Smolenka river, and smaller islets, is approximately 215,000 people.

Gorny Institut is the station of Saint Petersburg Metro. It is the western terminus of Line 4. The station was opened on 27 December 2024 as a one-station extension from Spasskaya and became the first metro station opened in Saint Petersburg in five years. Gorny Institut is situated 200 metres west of Staleprokatnyy Zavod.
