River Shiel
The River Shiel is a four-kilometre-long river between Moidart and Ardnamurchan in the Scottish Highlands. It begins at Acharacle, at the western end of Loch Shiel, and flows northwest towards Dorlin, where it empties into Loch Moidart.| Tap on a place to explore it |

Acharacle is a village on the landward end of the Ardnamurchan peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, at the foot of Loch Shiel. The ford referred to in the name spans the River Shiel, and, according to legend, was the site of a battle between Somerled and a Norwegian warrior named Torquil.

Salen is a coastal village on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, overlooking Salen Bay which is an inlet of the sea loch, Loch Sunart. Located in the Scottish council area of Highland, it is on the road to Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point of mainland Britain. Salen is situated 2½ miles south of River Shiel.
