The Monastery of Saint Nicholas Anapausas is a former Greek Orthodox monastery near the town of Kalambaka, in the Thessaly region of central Greece. It is located at the top of a rocky precipice over 415 metres above the Pineios valley floor. Holy Monastery of St. Nikolaos of Anapafsas is situated 300 metres southwest of Grand Monastère.

The Monastery of Saint Varlaam is a Greek Orthodox monastery in central Greece, situated in the Pineios Valley northeast of the town of Kalambaka. It is located at the top of a rocky precipice that is 373 metres above the valley floor. The Holy Monastery of Varlaam is situated 340 metres southeast of Grand Monastère.

The monastery-crowned pillars of Meteora are among the most striking geological and cultural gems of Greece. The formation consists of a number of steep and narrow rock pinnacles near the town of Kalambaka in northwestern Thessaly, topped with a total of 24 monasteries, 6 of which are still in use and open to visitors.
