Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maine. As of the 2020 census, the population was 55,478. Its county seat is Ellsworth. Ellsworth is a small city in Maine on the Union River. It is the county seat of Hancock County, with a population of about 6500 people. It was settled in 1763 and became a large lumber port and ship building center during the 19th century.
