Vasilievsky Island

Vasilievsky Island is an island in Saint Petersburg situated between the Bolshaya Neva and the Malaya Neva, two main distributaries of the river. The population of the district, including the adjacent to Dekabristov Island, separated by the Smolenka river, and smaller islets, is approximately 215,000 people.

Saint Andrew's Cathedral was the last Baroque cathedral built in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The cathedral was conceived at the time of Peter the Great as the chapter church of Russia's first chivalric order, that of Saint Andrew. St. Andrew is situated 580 metres southeast of Vasileostrovskaya.

The Peter and Paul Fortress is the original citadel of Saint Petersburg, Russia, founded by Peter the Great in 1703 and built to Domenico Trezzini's designs from 1706 to 1740 as a star fortress. Peter and Paul Fortress is situated 2½ km east of Vasileostrovskaya.
