Coulter or Culter is a small village and civil parish in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies approximately 3 miles south of Biggar. Some old maps and local modern houses also have the spelling Cootyre - "a safe place for cows." Nearby are two notable Scottish hills, Tinto and Culter Fell.

Symington is a small village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, 3 miles southwest of Biggar, 10 miles east of Douglas and 13 miles southeast of Carluke. Geographical features near Symington include Tinto Hill, the Coulter Hills and the River Clyde. Symington is situated 2½ miles northwest of Snaip.

Biggar is a market town historically in Lanarkshire and now within Clydesdale. It's nowadays a commuter town for both Edinburgh and Glasgow, and in 2020 had a population of 2640. Its attractions are a rare combination: a gasworks museum and a puppet theatre.
