Meroë

Meroë is an ancient city along the eastern bank of the Nile River in Northern Sudan, approximately 200 km northeast of Khartoum. The site is home to more than 200 Nubian pyramids in three separate groups.

Port Sudan

Port Sudan is a major port city on the Red Sea in eastern Sudan, and the capital of Red Sea State. Port Sudan is Sudan's main seaport and the source of 90% of the country's international trade.

Dongola

Dongola, also known as Urdu or New Dongola, is the capital of Northern State in Sudan, on the banks of the Nile. It should not be confused with Old Dongola, a now deserted medieval city located 80 km upstream on the opposite bank.

Wadi Halfa

Wadi Halfa is a town on the shores of Lake Nasser in the north of Sudan. It marks the point of entry into Sudan for those coming in from Egypt. It is surrounded by the dunes of the Nubian Desert, the eastern edge of the Sahara, and has a population of around 15,000.

Atbara

Atbara is a city of 115,000 inhabitants in Northern Sudan. Due to its links to the railway industry, Atbara is also known as the Railway City.

Suakin

Suakin is a port city in Northern Sudan. Once considered the height of medieval luxury on the Red Sea, the old city built of coral is now in ruins.

Merowe

Merowe is a town in Northern State, Sudan, near Karima Town, about 330 kilometres north of Khartoum. It borders the Nile and is the site of the Merowe Dam project, the largest contemporary hydropower project in Africa.
