Muchalls Castle stands overlooking the North Sea in the countryside of Kincardine and Mearns, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The lower course is a well-preserved Romanesque, double-groined 13th-century tower house structure, built by the Frasers of Muchalls. Muchalls Castle is situated 1½ miles southwest of Newtonhill Library.

The oldest church building in the Diocese of Brechin, it was built in 1831 as a simple country church on land granted by the owners of Muchalls Castle. Saint Ternan’s Church is situated 1 mile west of Newtonhill Library.
