Picnic Island is a small, privately owned, rocky island, with an area of about one hectare, part of the Schouten Island Group, lying close to the eastern coast of Tasmania near the Freycinet Peninsula. Picnic Island is situated 2½ km west of Sewage Treatment Plant.

The road was constructed through virgin eucalypt forest, along with the powerline, with minimal disruption to the National Park.
