It is situated in the civil parish of Eskdale and the Lake District National Park, and is within a 1⁄2 mile walk of the eastern terminus of the line, at Dalegarth station. Beckfoot railway station is situated 1¼ miles south of Brat’s Hill Stone Circle.

Located at an elevation of 217 m, the lake has an area of 3.3 hectares and measures 277 m × 150 m, with a maximum depth of 11 m. Blea Tarn is situated 1 mile southwest of Brat’s Hill Stone Circle.
