Beinn a' Bhùird is a Munro in the Cairngorm mountain range of Scotland. In Watson the author suggests the mountain should be named Beinn Bòrd – table hill, saying that local Scottish Gaelic speakers pronounced the mountain Paing Bòrd, with some of the older local folk still using Painna Bòrd.

Ben Avon is a mountain in the Cairngorms of Scotland. It is a sprawling mountain with a broad summit plateau dotted with granite tors. One of these marks the summit, called Leabaidh an Daimh Bhuidhe or Stob Easaidh Mòr, which stands at a height of 1,171 metres. Ben Avon is situated 2½ miles northeast of Dubh Lochain.

The Lairig an Laoigh is a mountain pass through the Highlands of Scotland. In speech and sometimes in writing the name is reduced to "Lairig Laoigh". It is of glacial origin, dissecting the Cairngorm plateau, and it runs roughly north–south from Speyside to Deeside at one time being used as a drove road. Lairig an Laoigh is situated 4 miles west of Dubh Lochain.

Braemar is a village in Aberdeenshire, standing at the point where the road leaves the Dee valley to climb over Cairnwell into Glenshee. It’s in the eastern part of Cairngorms National Park and surrounded by mountains, which may be scenic or louring depending on the weather.
