The station is located on the West Highland Line, sited 27 miles 43 chains from Craigendoran Junction, near Helensburgh, between Crianlarich and Arrochar and Tarbet. Ardlui railway station is situated 1 mile southwest of Dubh Lochan.

Island I Vow is a wooded islet near the head of Loch Lomond in west-central Scotland. It is 10 m tall at its highest point, and 80 m long. The island contains the remains of a castle built by the chief of Clan MacFarlane in 1577. Island I Vow is situated 2½ miles south of Dubh Lochan.
