The Euphrates Dam, most commonly known as Tabqa Dam; formerly known as al-Thawra Dam during the Ba'athist era, is an embankment dam on the Euphrates, located 40 kilometres upstream from the city of Raqqa in Raqqa Governorate, Syria. Euphrates Dam is situated 2 km north of Tabqa Power Plant.

Tabqa, formerly Al-Thawrah, is a city in Raqqa Governorate, Syria, approximately 55 kilometres west of Raqqa. Until the 1960s it had been a relatively small settlement. The city had a population of 69,425 as of the 2004 census.
