The reservoir is located on the western slopes of Neilston Pad and has a number of well maintained public access paths. Craighall Reservoir is situated 2 miles northeast of Townhead of Grange.

Its highest point is 261 metres and is characterised by a relatively flat summit plateau surrounded by steep slopes and distinctive forestry on its eastern side. Neilston Pad is situated 2½ miles northeast of Townhead of Grange.
