Tadmor Prison, referred to as the Desert Prison, was a prison in Palmyra, approximately 200 kilometres northeast of . Tadmor prison was known for harsh conditions, extensive human rights abuse, torture and summary executions.

The temple, consecrated to the Mesopotamian god Bel, worshipped at Palmyra in triad with the lunar god Aglibol and the sun god Yarhibol, formed the center of religious life in and was dedicated in AD 32. is situated 1½ km southwest of Tadmor Prison.
