The Biblioteca Ambrosiana is a historic library in Milan, Italy, also housing the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the Ambrosian art gallery. Named after Ambrose, the patron saint of Milan, it was founded in 1609 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, whose agents scoured Western Europe and even Greece and Syria for books and manuscripts. Biblioteca Ambrosiana is situated 380 metres southwest of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Located in Piazza della Scala in the Palazzo Brentani and the Palazzo Anguissola Antona Traversi, it hosts 195 artworks from the collections of Fondazione Cariplo with a strong representation of nineteenth century Lombard painters and sculptors, including Antonio Canova and Umberto Boccioni. Gallerie di Piazza Scala is situated 190 metres north of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
