Balvaird Castle in Perthshire is a traditional late medieval Scottish tower house. It is located in the Ochil Hills, around five kilometres south of Abernethy. Balvaird Castle is situated 1 mile northeast of Balcanquhal.

The Bunnet Stane is a rock formation near the hamlet of Gateside in Fife, at the foot of West Lomond. It sits upon one of the calciferous sandstone outcrops of the Old Red Sandstone suie that exist around the base of the Lomond Hills. Bonnet Stone is situated 2½ miles southeast of Balcanquhal.

Gateside is a small village in the north east of Fife, Scotland. It is inhabited by around 200 people. It also comprises a school, a park, seven-a-side football pitch, there used to be a village shop, and a pub which has now been converted into a private residence, the Gateside Memorial Hall and a garage.
