Singapore
Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia. Modern Singapore was founded as a British trading colony in 1819, and since independence, it has become one of the world's most prosperous countries and boasts one of the world's busiest ports.Photo: RamirBorja, CC BY-SA 3.0.

Essential Destinations
Top destinations include Singapore Changi Airport and Sentosa and Harbourfront.
Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Changi Airport, "Changi" or just "the airport" to locals, is the main commercial airport of Singapore. It is 25 km from the centre of Singapore, on the eastern edge of the island, and has good public transport links to all parts of Singapore.
Sentosa and Harbourfront

Sentosa is an island just off the southern coast of Singapore. This district also includes Harbourfront and the Southern Islands.
North and West

The northern and western parts of Singapore are the city's hinterlands, consisting of jungle dotted with public housing blocks and a significant industrial area in Sungei Kadut and the reclaimed area of Tuas.
Destinations to Discover
Explore places such as Riverside and Orchard.
Riverside

The Singapore River forms a central artery in Singapore's densely packed Central Business District. The north bank of the river is where Raffles landed and founded his colony, and to this day many central government buildings can be found in the area.
Orchard

Orchard Road is Singaporean consumerism at its most manic, a two-kilometre stretch of interconnected shopping malls, hotels, and hotels with shopping malls catering to all budgets and tastes.
East Coast

The East Coast of Singapore is largely residential and offers few sights as such; most visitors just cross it on their way from and to Changi Airport. For Singaporeans, on the other hand, the main attractions are 20 km of white sandy beach and the food: this is the home of many of Singapore's culinary icons.
Chinatown

Singapore's Chinatown is the traditional Chinese quarters of town, and while the entire city is largely Chinese these days, the area does retain some of its own charm.
Marina Bay

Marina Bay is Singapore's newest district, created on reclaimed land just east of Riverside. It includes the areas east of Shenton Way and Esplanade Dr.
Little India

Little India is, as the name promises, the centre for the large Indian community in Singapore. While a rather sanitised version of the real thing, Little India retains its distinct identity without degenerating into a mere tourist attraction and is one of the most colourful and attractive places to visit in Singapore.
Bugis

Bugis and Kampong Glam are districts of Singapore, just to the east of the central business district.
Balestier

Balestier, Newton, Novena and Toa Payoh are neighbourhoods in central Singapore. Strung along the North-South Line just north of Orchard Road, these four rather dissimilar districts serve to absorb Singapore's urban sprawl and house its inhabitants.
