Essential Destinations
Top destinations include Central Europe and Britain and Ireland.
Central Europe
Photo: Przemek Jahr, Public domain.
Central Europe is one of Europe's most beautiful regions. Long divided by the ambitions of warring empires and then Cold War tensions, this region was deeply influenced by the Holy Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire.
Britain and Ireland
Italy

Italy was once the core of the mighty Roman Empire, and the cradle of the Renaissance. Along with Greece, it is regarded as the "birthplace" of Western culture, and it is also home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, including high art and monuments.
Destinations to Discover
Explore places such as Balkans and Nordic countries.
Balkans
Nordic countries

The Nordic countries make up the northernmost part of western Europe, extending into the Arctic. They include the countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, the autonomous Faroe Islands and Åland, and in most definitions the autonomous Greenland, as there are long-standing political, cultural and linguistic ties.
Eastern Europe

The term Eastern Europe can be defined in several different ways; see the understand section below for a discussion. This article uses a fairly narrow definition, covering only Belarus, Russia and Ukraine.
Iberia
France
Photo: Tobi 87, CC BY-SA 3.0.
France is a country with which almost every traveller has a relationship. Many dream of its joie de vivre shown by the countless cafés, picturesque villages, and world-famous gastronomy.
Benelux

Benelux is an economic union comprising three neighbouring monarchies: Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The name is formed from the beginning of each country's name.
